Wrapping up the remediation - Boucle Joseph Dewez, of course!

At ABV Development, we love projects with resilience. With great enthusiasm (and boots on the ground), we got back to work for property developer Equilis, whom we already knew from the first phase of the Henricot project.
This time, it’s Phase II of a large-scale redevelopment on a former steel industry site that still has a lot to offer.
From steel to foundation
The site in question? A former Henricot factory, a historic landmark of Belgian steelmaking.
Today, its conversion is in full swing: this industrial past is giving way to a new residential neighbourhood, and as is often the case in such situations, a thorough clean-up of the soil and groundwater was required first.
For this new phase, our role was threefold:
- Combined study
- Remediation project
- Monitoring of remediation works (ongoing)
Between February and March 2025, remediation works were in full swing:
- Excavation of contaminated soil
- Groundwater pumping, treated through an activated carbon unit
- Injections to stimulate anaerobic biodegradation
All of this without letting costs spiral out of control. Thanks to our precise monitoring work, we were able to target excavations accurately, avoid unnecessary treatments, and ensure an efficient yet measured remediation.
With the bulk of the works now complete, groundwater monitoring will begin in July 2025. The goal: to ensure the site maintains the right quality to welcome new residents in the near future.
Thank you to Equilis for their continued trust!
