Biodiversity, Water & Circularity

Protect the resources and ecosystems of your projects.

In the context of ecological transition, biodiversity preservation, sustainable water management, and the adoption of circular practices are becoming major challenges for the responsible development of industrial, real estate, and territorial projects.

ABV Development supports companies and project developers in four complementary areas: biodiversity and ecosystem management (inventories, Natura 2000 assessment, BiodiverCity® label), stormwater management and flood risk, the transition to a circular economy (waste management, End of Waste, material recovery), and the creation of environmental product declarations (EPD, FDES).

In Belgium, ABV Development is the only CIBI-approved consulting firm for the BiodiverCity® label. Our multidisciplinary teams (ecologists, hydrologists, waste management experts) operate across the three Belgian regions, right from the initial design phases of your project.

Biodiversity & Ecosystems

Biodiversity preservation is an essential component of contemporary development projects. ABV Development conducts fauna and flora inventories (botany, ornithology, entomology, herpetology, mammology, acoustic bat surveys) across the three Belgian regions. If protected species are present, our teams assist with obtaining derogations from the competent authorities under the Nature Conservation Act (LCN). For projects near a Natura 2000 site, an appropriate impact assessment is mandatory and must be included with the permit application. ABV Development is also the only CIBI-approved firm in Belgium for support with the BiodiverCity® label.

Water & Natural Risks

In the context of climate change, risks associated with stormwater and flooding are a growing concern for development projects. Any soil modification can affect the natural water cycle and increase the risks of runoff, flooding, and surface water pollution.

ABV Development conducts the technical analyses required for impact assessments and permit applications: calculation of impermeable surfaces, sizing of retention basins, evaluation of water levels in case of flooding and hydrological modeling, based on the Sustainable Stormwater Management framework and the recommendations of the Transversal Flooding Group (Wallonia).

Circularity & Waste Management

The circular economy is based on three fundamental principles: reducing raw material extraction, closing life cycles through repair and recycling, and reducing environmental impacts through eco-design.

With over 20 years of experience, ABV Development supports industrial and public stakeholders in optimizing their processes: waste auditing and characterization (hazardous and non-hazardous), identification of recovery channels, and procedures for ending waste status or recognizing a material as a by-product. In Wallonia, the end-of-waste status procedure notably involves a technical file prepared in conjunction with IssEP (Scientific Institute of Public Service).

Environmental Declarations

The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and the Environmental and Health Declaration Sheet (FDES) are standardized documents that present a product's environmental data throughout its entire life cycle, in accordance with ISO 14025 and, for construction products, EN15804. ABV Development conducts the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) on which the declaration is based, utilizing recognized tools (OpenLCA, Ecoinvent database), ensures compliance with PCR (Product Category Rules), coordinates third-party verification — a mandatory step before any publication — and assists with online publication on the EPD portal and the INIES platform.
