The three scopes of your carbon footprint

Scope 1: Direct emissions

Direct greenhouse gas emissions from the company's own activities, such as fuel combustion for a vehicle fleet or industrial processes.

Indirect emissions from the company's energy consumption: heating, electricity, and other purchased energy sources.

The CO2 Performance Ladder®, originally developed in the Netherlands by SKAO and introduced in Belgium, is a certification covering various emission scopes.

Certified companies can gain an advantage during the bid evaluation process for public procurement, notably through price preference. This tool helps to understand energy flows and the carbon footprint, set reduction targets, improve communication regarding CO2 policy, and support reduction initiatives at the sectoral level or within the value chain.
