Public R&D grants in Belgium aim to support companies in taking risks for the development of new solutions or the acquisition of new technical and scientific knowledge.

R&D grants in Belgium are available in all three regions (Wallonia, Brussels, and Flanders) for fundamental, applied, or experimental development research projects. Each region has its own organizations and programs: DG06 in Wallonia, Innoviris in Brussels, and VLAIO in Flanders.

ABV Development supports you at every stage: potential identification, eligibility verification, maximization of the eligible budget, application drafting, defense before competent authorities, and technical and financial reporting.

What types of projects are eligible for R&D funding?

R&D projects eligible for support must demonstrate innovation potential and the creation of technological, economic, and societal added value. Three categories are distinguished :

• Fundamental research : work aimed at expanding scientific knowledge, primarily in collaboration with academic institutions

• Applied research : projects aimed at solving practical problems with direct applications in industry or services;

• Experimental development : transforming applied research findings into prototypes, new products, services, or processes

What types of costs are eligible for R&D funding?

The main eligible costs cover: personnel costs (researchers, engineers, technicians), operating costs (consumables, publications, conferences, travel), depreciable materials and equipment used in the project, subcontracting costs, and certain overheads.
