Flora and fauna inventory

Assess the biological value of a site to support biodiversity and ensure the success of your project.

For many development projects, it is necessary or advisable to assess the biological value of a site by identifying the animal and plant species present, as well as the habitats involved.

A fauna and flora inventory may be required as part of an environmental impact assessment (EIA), in the event that protected species are present that require a derogation, or it may be carried out voluntarily to guide the project from the design stage.

ABV Environment has the expertise and equipment required to identify species (birds, bats, insects, amphibians, reptiles, plants, etc.) and habitats, whether on specific sites or across larger territories, in the Walloon Region, Brussels, and Flanders.

Protected species: the derogation required before applying for a permit

If there areprotected species on or near your site, the Nature Conservation Act (NCA) requires you to obtain a derogation from protection measures before submitting your permit application.

In addition to the required form, the derogation application file must include the results of biological inventories and, where applicable, a proposal for mitigation and/or compensation measures.

ABV Environment can handle all of these procedures in coordination with the relevant regional authorities.
