The IED Industrial Emissions Directive (integrated pollution prevention and control)

The IED Directive provides for the determination of Best Available Reference Techniques through an exchange of information between Member States, industries, non-governmental environmental protection organizations and the European Commission. This work leads to the creation of MTD reference documents called “BREF” (for Best available techniques REference document) and “conclusions on BAT”.

Recently, two Commission implementing decisions establishing the conclusions on BAT for the food, beverage and milk industries and to the waste incineration sector were published in the Official Journal of the European Union and for was published in the Official Journal of the European Union (3 and 4 December 2019) - https://eippcb.jrc.ec.europa.eu/

If your industrial sector is affected by these findings (http://environnement.wallonie.be/emissions-industrielles/), a letter from the SPW Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment - Department of Permits and Authorizations - DPA will be sent to you in the coming months in order to fulfill your obligations related to this publication of the CMTD, namely:

  • The preparation of a technical file including all the information necessary for the purpose of the review of permits in progress on your site;
  • The preparation of a basic report by an approved expert in accordance with the decree of 5 December 2008 relating to soil management”
