Focus on the PIIPES, the internal groundwater intervention and protection plan: general context

Wallonia has significant groundwater resources that are subject to various pressures related, among other things, to human activities. The quality of groundwater must be preserved and one of the main objectives of the Walloon Region is to prevent or limit the degradation of groundwater. A groundwater monitoring network is set up to ensure the monitoring of its quality.
The internal groundwater intervention and protection plan (PIPES) is one of the specific tools set up by the Walloon Region to monitor the quality of groundwater near Technical Landfill Centers (TEC).
The PIPES, Quebec?
If the groundwater quality control networks around the TEC detect fluctuations in concentrations of specific parameters and/or abnormal excesses of standards, a PIIPES must be implemented by the operator.
What does the PIIPES include?
The PIPES includes a characterization study and delineation of the potential pollution plume carried out by an approved expert such as ABV Development. It also aims to take into account the local geochemical background and possible natural or historical exogenous pollution.
The PIIPES therefore assesses the risks identified for groundwater and the corrective measures envisaged by the operator.
The Competent Authority validates the PIIPES submitted by the operator and adapts the operator's environmental permit accordingly.
And ABV Development in all of this?
The development, implementation and implementation of a PIIPES requires the use of multidisciplinary experts like ABV Develoment!
