Circular economy – concrete applications at ABV Development

On several construction sites in the Walloon Region, ABV Development has ensured the traceability of excavated soil to the appropriate and closest sectors. The embankments were screened and the stony materials were reused in sub-foundation stone. Significant tonnages to the treatment centers are saved and the addition of new stones avoided.
As part of the ZIN project, winner of the be.exemplary call for projects (project owner: Befimmo), ABV Development supported the project owner in determining the environmental requirements applicable to the production of aggregates from the rubble resulting from the demolition of certain elements of existing towers in order to obtain, for them, “end-of-waste status” and their redefinition into “recoverable materials”, thus allowing their use in new concrete intended for the project in compliance with the Brussels regulations in force.
In the project of Search 3DCIT-IS (Innoviris funding) ABV Development and UCLouvain are more specifically examining the circularity of urban and peri-urban areas. Circularity is then considered as much from the point of view of the materials constituting a building as from the point of view of the mix of functions that is organized there.
These few examples add to an experience already developed internally in the rewarding fields of circularity, carbon impact limitation and Cradle to Cradle.
